I intend to collect Volkswagen Routan camper conversions here. If you come across something not listed here, please drop it in the comments.
Rich and Kirsten on YouTube
The same month I started working on my minivan build, these two started posting videos about their Routan conversion. This is exciting, because it's the first good Routan-specific information I've found.
I was mortified to learn that they don't have the pesky 5-foot-long overhead console/DVD rail system that my van has. Lucky ducks. For one thing, they were able to more easily put up privacy curtains behind the driver and passenger seats. They might also have an easier time at putting an overhead vent fan in.
It is really nice/interesting to see the interior of my van in someone else's hands/creativity. Here are the links:
- Rich and Kirsten YouTube Channel
- Routan Camper Conversion Video 1 - The window coverings were the first things I worked on, too! This video gives you a look at what the interior of the van looks like once you take the second and third row seats out. You can also see the challenges they faced with their bed build and the super-uneven Routan floor.
- Routan Camper Conversion Video 2 - This video is helpful because it shows you what they're storing where. It's also a great example of how the build-out process for a minivan goes: you take it step by step, with plans to add/change things as you go along.
